I do have another defense for them though - for people who are just absolutely bad at giving gifts. I'm sure we all have relatives that forget how old you are, but my grandmother was the worst. She lived right next door, I saw her at least on a weekly basis so she had to know! And yet every year for Christmas she got me toys for kids *much* younger - I'm talking about things like those dolls that teach you how to zip and button things, when I was 10.
